A touching email

My ex-colleague, Leila, sent this to me last week via e-mail. As I read it, tears welled up in my eyes. How true as some people treat friends and work associates much much better than their own family members :(

F A M I L Y
I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."

He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you too,and I do like the flowers, especially the blue.."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we were to die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think? So what is behind the story? Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU
So let's not be foolish and start treating our loved ones the way they should be treated in the 1st place - with loving ways and kind words....

CNY is nearing...

What to prepare for Chinese New Year??

Every year around this time, as the neighbourhood starts to come alive with the bakery pushing their cookies and the stalls put out all the festive decorations for sale, you can feel the buzzing activities starting. However, this year, almost everyone I spoke to say that they feel it's quite quiet. Actually I feel the same too.

Mr Kho has already prepared the 'Ang Pow' money. I will spend some time (and spend $$) next week to get some decorations to prepare the house. Also have to stock up on the cookies, tidbits, drinks, 'bak kwa'...(yum yum). Previous years, I would have ordered many boxes of 'bak kwa' to give away as my colleague will be coordinating the orders. This year, I'm still on maternity leave thus was left out. Never mind, more money saved to spend elsewhere...Hmmm...so blessing in disguise or nightmare for the wallet??

Ah Ma's 60th Birthday!

My mum is now officially a senior citizen! She can exchange her EZ-link card to a senior citizen card!!

I chose a "Thomas Train" cake as I know that the 2 children will be excited by it. If the grandma sees her grandchildren happy, she will be happy too, thus the choice of cake....Initially I wanted to ask the cake shop for just one birthday candle, then changed my mind as I know Manfred and Yitian will be delighted to help Ah Ma blow out the candles. You might begin to wonder at this stage if it was still Ah Ma's birthday.

Second Princess - Xinyan

Realised that I have not posted many pixs on Xinyan.
She takes on Mr Kho's looks more.

Xinyan likes to be talked to every morning when she wakes up and will make cooing sounds in return. Another little darling.

My girl has truly grown up...

Second day of playgroup...

I was prepared to go in together with Yitian, so that I can observe what's happening in the class. When Teacher Jean pulled out the chair for the childeren to sit for her to check for HFMD, Yitian was the first one to go up on her own to sit down. I was quite surprise. There was totally no resistance from her as the teacher said "Open your mouth, see your palms and your feet". Imagine if it was me asking her!!!

After the checking, Yitian immediately dashed in and sat on the play mat. Teacher Agnes gave her some toys to play with. Yitian did not even look at me once. Teacher Agnes said if I feel that Yitian is able to cope without me, I can don't go in. I said sure. (In my heart, I'm like "I can't cope without her.") Separation anxiety, though not from Yitian...from ME!!

I left her there and went to the newly opened 24hr Shop-N-Save to have a look. At least there's now a competitor to the small NTUC outlet. That NTUC outlet is really small till you find that they don't stock up on many items. I walked around till about 9.50am and quickly made my way back to the school.

When the door opened, I was expecting to see Yitian fly out to me. However, my heart swell with pride as I saw my little girl waiting patiently at the back of the class, carrying her backpack quietly and one hand holding on to her craft item and the other hand, a small balloon. The other mothers commented that Yitian is very independent, very calm and composed. One mother said that she was pushing her daughter to be near Yitian so that they can become friends. I told Yitan that she must help the auntie look after the little girl, ok?

Yitian's 1st Day @ Playgroup!

Yitian attended her very 1st day of playgroup today! Her session is from 9am to 11am. Though it's just 2 hours, at this age she will be picking up social skills and activities that will help her to become a confident, independent girl.
She woke up at 7am this morning, though I would have liked her to sleep more. She was very happy to put on her school uniform and eager to get going.

Her school is aptly named "Little Learners". There are about 14 children in her class. I watched her from the side of the classroom at first and I was very proud that not once did she appear lost or frightened. She just took her time to look around and warming up to the people around her.
After the singing session, the teachers encouraged the children to keep the toys. At this moment, I guess I should thank Barney, the purple dinosaur, as when the teacher started singing "Clean up, clean up", Yitian sprung into action! I could see that Yitian has some leadership qualities in her. Though still new to the class, when she sees her playgroup mates, she readily went up to them and help quietly. That's my girl!

There were singing and drawing activities.

And Yitian's 1st masterpiece is drawn!
